And Then Some You Don’t Want

Be careful what you wish for
‘Cause you just might get it all
And then some you don’t want

~ “Home” (Track from Chris Daughtry’s CD)

WHAT YOU WISH FOR…
I was sitting with my parents watching the Cactus Softball League championship games and we began wondering if I would have enjoyed being a professional baseball player (of course I was never good enough but it was a dream at one point in my life).

Cas Haley, America’s Got Talent runner-up, said several times throughout the show how winning would be a dream come true and that he would finally be able to “provide” for his wife and one year old son.

AND THEN SOME YOU DON’T WANT…
I’m quite certain I would have strongly disliked the “unseen” life of a professional athlete – traveling, hotels, pressure to perform, media, critics, not being able to live a “normal” life, injuries, contract negotiations, etc.  But most of all, not being able to come “home” every night to my family would have destroyed me.

Cas Haley was focusing on all the benefits of winning America’s Got Talent, the negative aspects didn’t appear to be anywhere on his radar.  Even though he finished in second place, there is a good chance he’ll get a taste of stardom.  Will it be worth it?  Will making a bunch of money make him happy?  Will he enjoy traveling around the country to perform?  Will he spend enough time with his wife & son?   Will he get to come “home” every night?

Although I firmly believe in wholeheartedly chasing after your dreams, I also believe God loves us and knows what is best for us.  He might allow you to fall short of your dream because he knows the “and then some you don’t want” part.
